Description
The Roanoke Regional Chamber's ATHENA Awards program recognizes and celebrates the achievements of businesswomen across the Roanoke region. The ATHENA Award, an internationally prized honor, recognizes women who demonstrate excellence in professional leadership, community service, and mentorship of future leaders.
The Roanoke Regional Chamber will highlight two women at the top of their field, who have demonstrated inspiring leadership within their industry, mentored women throughout their career, and act as dedicated community servants.
For our inaugural year we will welcome keynote speaker Nancy Agee, CEO emeritus of Carilion Clinic.
Nancy Howell Agee, CEO of Carilion Clinic, began her career as a nurse and holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Virginia and MSN from Emory University. Before becoming Carilion’s President and CEO in 2011, Nancy served as Chief Operating Officer and was a key architect of the health system’s partnership with Virginia Tech that continues to transform the region’s economy. Beyond Carilion, Nancy is a recognized national health care leader. She is a past chair of the American Hospital Association and 2024 recipient of its highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award. She is perennially named among Modern Healthcare’s “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” and to Virginia Business magazine’s Virginia 500 – Power List for the last four years. Nancy chairs the boards of the Virginia Initiative for Growth and Opportunity (Go Virginia), Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges and the American Hospital Association’s Coalition to Strengthen America’s Health Care. She also serves on the boards of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Virginia Business Council, Virginia Business Higher Education Council and on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Revenue Estimates and Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s Medical Advisory Team.
