Amy Aniobi and Lisa McQuillan will screen and discuss their web series Lisa and Amy Are Black as well as episodes of Silicon Valley and Black-ish.
Amy Aniobi is a writer/producer for HBO’s upcoming comedy series Insecure and the host of Modern Manners for Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls. Her past credits include HBO’s Silicon Valley and Brothers in Atlanta, NBC’s The Michael J. Fox Show, and web series Dead Women Say What, Lisa and Amy Are Black, The Slutty Years, and Awkward Black Girl. She hails from North Texas, graduated from Stanford University and UCLA, and has lived both in the US (New York, the Bay Area) and abroad (France, Morocco). She enjoys travel, baking cookies, and the occasional, well-timed “that’s what she said.”
With a B.A. in film from the University of Michigan, an M.F.A. in screenwriting from UCLA, and a certificate of completion from the least expensive traffic school on the entire west side of Los Angeles, Lisa McQuillan is a force. In fact, her web series Lisa and Amy Are Black has upwards of eight views. With TV writing credits including We Got Next (My Damn Channel), Reed Between the Lines (BET/Centric), and Welcome to the Family (NBC), it’s unclear why her mother thinks she “works down at the radio station.” McQuillan recently finished her second season writing on ABC comedy Black-ish. She enjoys deleting stuff from her DVR, apologizing to friends for being insensitive, and questioning the logic of rap lyrics.
