Hollins Science Seminar Keynote Speaker Per Carlson Wednesday, March 11, 7:30 pm Niederer Auditorium, Wetherill Visual Arts Center, Hollins University Keynote speaker: Per Carlson of the Royal Swedish Academy of Science, ?Alfred Nobel and the Nobel Prizes.? After completing his Ph.D. in experimental particle physics at the Stockholm University in 1969 Carlson spent many years at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland, initially as a postdoc, then as staff member. In 1987 he became full professor of particle physics at, and director of, the Manne Siegbahn Institute in Stockholm and later professor, and physics department head, at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) where he is now emeritus professor with active research in astroparticle physics. Carlson was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1988 and served on its Nobel Committee for physics from 1998-2007 which he chaired 2006-07.
