Women's History Month Speaker: Natalie Zemon Davis

Braided Histories: A Slave Family and Its Women in Colonial Suriname. Join us for an evening with renowned historian Natalie Zemon Davis as she discusses her research on slave women in 18th-century colonial Suriname. How did these women choose between forms of resistance?  How can historians uncover clues about the lives of individuals treated as mere property in archival sources? Davis was educated at Smith, Radcliffe, and the University of Michigan and has taught at Brown, the University of Toronto, Berkeley, and Princeton. She has been awarded the Holberg International Memorial Prize and National Humanities Medal, and been named Companion of the Order of Canada. Her numerous books include The Return of Martin Guerre, Women on the Margins: Three Seventeenth-Century Lives, and Trickster Travels.
