Position Description
Title:                           Human Resources (HR) and Compliance Specialist (Full-Time)
Reports To:             Executive Director
Summary:                 HR and Compliance Specialist responsibilities include preparing compensation and benefits packages, setting up company policies, maintaining updated employee records, and assisting with regulatory compliance. To be successful in this role, you should have a good understanding of full cycle recruiting and solid knowledge of labor legislation.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Recruitment.
  2. Employee Relations.
  3. Regulatory Compliance.
  4. Training and Development.
  • Assist leadership team with all internal and external Human Resource matters.
  • Participate in developing, maintaining, and evaluating organizational guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Recommend strategies to motivate employees.
  • Assist with the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding process by identifying candidates, conducting reference checks, setting up pre-employment drug screens and issuing employment contracts.
  • Investigate complaints brought forward by employees.
  • Coordinate employee development plans and performance management.
  • Perform orientation, onboarding, and associated record keeping.
  • Manage the organization’s employee database and prepare reports.
  • Produce and submit reports on general HR activity.
  • Assist with budget monitoring and payroll.
  • Keep up to date with the latest HR trends and best practices.
  • Coordinate with leadership team on evaluation and administration of company benefits.
  • Administer Family Medical Leave Act and workers compensation functions.
  • Assist leadership team with federal, state, and local compliance requirements.
  • Assist leadership team with grant management and associated compliance requirements.
  • Assist with other tasks as directed by Executive Director.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in HR or related (essential).
  2. 2 years of experience as an HR Specialist (essential).
  3. Deep understanding of Labor Law and employment equity regulations.
  4. Efficient HR administration and people management skills.
  5. Excellent record keeping skills.
  6. Fantastic knowledge of HR functions and best practices.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Works comfortably under pressure and meets tight deadlines.
  9. Superb computer literacy with capability in email, Microsoft Office and relevant HR software.
  10. Remarkable organizational and conflict management skills.
  11. Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  12. Meticulous attention to detail.
  13. Be able to pass a criminal background check and Drug and Alcohol Test.
