ROANOKE VALLEY CENTER FOR SIGHT HOSTS 14TH ANNUAL GIFT OF SIGHT DAY
ROANOKE, VA, DECEMBER 4, 2020 - The Roanoke Valley Center for Sight, in conjunction with Vistar Eye Center and Eye Care and Surgery, hosted the 14th annual Gift of Sight Day on Friday, December 4, 2020. Chad D. Albright, M.D., an ophthalmologist with Vistar Eye Center, provided free eye surgery to three individuals at the Roanoke Valley Center for Sight in Salem (438 W Main St, Salem, VA 24153).
The Gift of Sight Day offers individuals the special opportunity to receive free eye surgery from board-certified ophthalmologists. To qualify, individuals must live in Southwestern Virginia, have no insurance, and need cataract, glaucoma, or eye plastic surgery. This year, three patients who applied received cataract surgery.
“It’s always rewarding to help people see more clearly,” said Dr. Frank Cotter, the Medical Director of Roanoke Valley Center for Sight and an ophthalmologist with Vistar Eye Center, “but even more so when the patients wouldn’t normally be able to afford the surgery. They are just so grateful, and it’s a great way to give back during the holiday season."
Patients arrived early in the morning at the Roanoke Valley Center for Sight to be prepped for surgery. All of the staff and medical professionals volunteered their time to help make the Gift of Sight Day possible.
