Description
The Business Council of the Roanoke-Blacksburg Region is thrilled to welcome Dr. Melissa Furman, MS, DBA to Roanoke for a special evening of networking and discussion.
Dr. Furman is the Founder/Consultant for Career Potential, LLC.
Dr. Furman will be speaking on the "Future Landscape of Labor and Talent"
Organizational leaders have been navigating challenges with recruiting and retaining an engaged, qualified workforce and the challenges continue to build. This interactive session will provide an overview of the workforce landscape and will provide strategies for recruiting, retaining, and engaging talent to help your organization become an “employer of choice”.
Hold onto your seats because you’re going for a ride. Dr. Furman is a self-proclaimed “Yankee Belle”—that is, a combination of “Jersey Girl” sass being born and raised in New Jersey and a sprinkle of southern charm gained from living in the South for 20+ years. After 10 years serving as an assistant dean of a business school and a total of 20 years working in higher education, Dr. Furman decided to bring her knowledge and expertise to the streets by starting her own business, Career Potential. Dr. Furman provides speaking, training, consulting, and coaching services to empower individuals and organizations to embrace the “uncomfortable”. Utilizing her formal training in psychology, counseling, and organizational behavior, her goal is to help you develop, achieve, and succeed. So, fasten your seatbelts and get ready for the ride.
Dr. Melissa Furman’s passion for guiding individuals with career, professional, and leadership development inspired her to launch Career Potential to help individuals achieve and organizations succeed. As the owner of Career Potential, Dr. Furman delivers highly engaging sessions at state, national, and international conferences in addition to providing consulting and training services.
Dr. Furman is not your usual “academic”. She utilizes her research and subject-matter expertise related to generational diversity, unconscious bias, career and leadership development, and emotional intelligence to have a positive, practical impact on organizations and individuals alike.
Dr. Furman served as the assistant dean and currently serves as a faculty member at the James M. Hull College of Business at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. She also serves as an affiliate faculty member for the Professional Education division at GA Tech and the Kenan-Flagler Executive Education division at UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Furman has previously served in a variety of roles at other universities such as Emory University, The University of Georgia, and Johns Hopkins University. She obtained her Doctorate of Business and Masters of Science in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Susquehanna University.
