Description
FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway is rallying the community to help clean up the Blue Ridge Parkway in advance of the Blue Ridge Marathon.
"Love Your Parkway Cleanup Days" are great group outings - so show your love by forming a team of family and friends, neighbors, employees, school teammates, etc.
The first cleanup is Saturday, March 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Gum Spring Overlook (Milepost 120.5) and Chestnut Ridge Overlook (Milepost 120.4), both on Mill Mountain Spur Road. Volunteers will get directions and equipment, if needed, at the start of two shifts - 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. All skill levels and amount of time are welcome.
More “Love Your Parkway” Cleanup Days are scheduled for April 5, April 12 and April 19. Stay tuned for details.
FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway also is recruiting course marshals and aid station captains for the Blue Ridge Marathon on Saturday, April 26. Strategically positioned along the Blue Ridge Marathon course, course marshals help direct runners and aid station volunteers help fuel them by providing water and energy bars.
Aid stations offer an opportunity to promote one’s business or organization. Each aid station requires a team captain and a total of 10 volunteers. Water and snacks are supplied by Roanoke Outside.
For more information about any of these events, send an e-mail to roanoke@friendsbrp.org.
Based in Roanoke, Va., FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway is the only volunteer-driven, 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization solely dedicated to helping the National Park Service protect, preserve, enhance and celebrate America’s favorite scenic drive.
