Each Monday night on the Waldron Stage of Mill Mountain Theatre, the Playwright’s Lab at Hollins presents a talk by a prominent working professional theatre artist. This week’s guest is Kate Burke, who heads the theatre voice program at the University of Virginia. She was named one of the first UVA Mead Endowment Honored Faculty members and is an inaugural member of UVA’s Academy of Teaching. She has given workshops at theatres, conferences, and medical schools, and provided coaching to news anchors, teachers, and clergy. A member of Actor’s Equity, she has appeared at the Virginia Repertory Theatre, the Portland (Maine) Stage Company, American Conservatory Theatre, Iowa Playwrights Festival, Nebraska Repertory Theatre, Spokane Interplayers Ensemble, and many others. Television credits include a lead role in The Malady, directed by Marshall Jamison and produced by Nebraska Public Television. Burke holds an M.F.A. in acting from the Ohio University Professional Actor Training Program. |
